" In Aztec and Mayan mythology, the god of fire Xiutecutli is represented as a butterfly. Fire, like the butterfly, is a symbol of personal Transformation.

The myth of Psyche and Eros is a mythological metaphore for the feminine journey toward consciousness. Psyche is the Greek word for both soul and butterfly.

I have chosen the butterfly as universal symbol of the human spirit for my paintings because of its fragility, beauty and wondrous capacity for Transformation. Like the butterfly, man is able to evolve and overcome the sometimes difficult challenges he is faced with.

It is a positive message about coming out of the darkness into the Light.

The colour compositions are harmonious and graduate from darkness to light, thus giving them an ethereal quality.

On another level, I am inspired by my garden in Devon which has strategically placed buddleias and attracts dozens of butterflies. My paintings can then also be seen as an expression of a beautiful spring or summer garden in bloom..."

Laure is a spiritual healer for the Healing Trust and is particularly interested in the healing power of Art. She offers workshops to adults and children and works with schools and not for profit organizations.
